Head unit and PCM repair
Bench-level repair for factory head units and Porsche PCM systems, diagnosed and fixed on our own blue workbench upstairs in Saddle Brook, NJ.
Chapter 01
What actually fails
The complaint we see most with Porsche PCM units is a touch screen cracked in the dash from years of use, or a screen that has simply stopped responding while the rest of the unit still powers up. PCM 3.1 systems bring a second, quieter failure: the internal hard drive wears out long before the electronics around it do, and a slow, glitchy or half-working navigation screen is often that drive failing, not the display itself.
CD mechanisms jam, skip or refuse to load a disc, and no-power faults leave a head unit doing nothing at all when the key turns. That range of failure shows up across Becker and Harman Becker units, straight Harman systems, Logic 7, Alpine and Bose, the brands that cover most of what comes across our bench in a given week.

How we work on it
Every unit gets diagnosed on the same blue workbench upstairs at our Saddle Brook shop, the bench you can see in the photo on this page. We trace a fault to the failing part on the bench, and where a Harman/Becker original replacement part is available, that's what goes back in rather than a generic substitute.
Two jobs come off that bench routinely alongside straight repair. A PCM 3.1 with a failing hard drive gets it swapped for a solid-state drive, which removes the wear point rather than just patching around it, and PCM 3.0 and 3.1 units can have Apple CarPlay and a reverse camera added in the same visit.

Chapter 03
What you get back
Every repair carries a 1-year limited warranty, and extended warranties are available if you want coverage past that first year. Most jobs turn around in 7 to 10 business days from the day the unit arrives, walked in or shipped.
If the fault turns out to live in a factory amplifier rather than the head unit, that's a separate repair we handle on its own, and a Bluetooth or AUX retrofit is a different job again, done behind the original faceplate rather than inside it.
