Shipping a radio, amplifier or antenna to Saddle Brook for repair

Most units never touch the counter in person. They arrive by mail from across the country and overseas, get diagnosed on the bench upstairs at 101 Route 46 in Saddle Brook, and ship back the same way.

Chapter 01

The repair form and what to write on it

Every incoming unit needs a completed repair form riding in the same box, and there is no substitute for it. The form needs the car, the model year, the exact unit (head unit, amplifier, antenna module, whatever is coming in) and the fault as you have observed it, written in plain terms rather than guessed at as a part number.

That single sheet tells the bench whose car the unit came out of and what it was doing before it was pulled. Any carrier is fine for the trip in, domestic or international.

Packing so nothing shifts in the box

Wrap the unit in bubble wrap and pay particular attention to the faceplate and the rear connectors, both of which are the first things damaged by a unit that moves around in transit. Choose a box sized to the unit rather than a spare box with room to spare, and pack the gaps solid.

Circuit boards inside these units are static-sensitive, so keep the unit away from loose static-prone packing materials and handle it by the housing, not the connectors, before it ever reaches a box.

Chapter 03

Where it goes and how it comes back

Send the unit to Becker Auto Sound, 101 US HWY 46 West, Saddle Brook, NJ 07663, Attn: Service Dept. Once the repair is done, the standard return is UPS Ground, insured, with next-day, second-day and third-day expedited options available for a fee, and USPS Priority International for units heading back overseas.

Turnaround runs 7 to 10 business days from the day the unit reaches the bench, and every repair carries a one-year limited warranty. For a tracking number on a unit already on its way back, email shipping@beckerautosound.com and reference the repair.
